Our Mission
At Obsidian Martial Arts, our mission is to empower individuals through the mastery of Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense, instilling confidence, discipline, and resilience in every student. Rooted in the values of respect and integrity, our academy is led by a dedicated team of instructors, many of whom are military veterans and law enforcement professionals. With a focus on strong leadership and mentorship, we strive to create a supportive environment where students of all ages can thrive. As a retired Army sniper and Purple Heart awardee, I am deeply committed to fostering a community that prioritizes the development of both martial arts skills and essential life values. Together, we build not only skilled martial artists but also exceptional leaders ready to make a positive impact in their communities.
How We Work
Our shared values keep us connected and guide us as one team.
Respect
We believe that respect is the foundation of a successful martial arts journey. At Obsidian Martial Arts, students are taught to respect their instructors, peers, and themselves. This value fosters a positive training environment where everyone feels valued and supported. Respect is not only vital on the mat but also translates into everyday interactions, teaching students the importance of kindness and understanding.
Discipline
Discipline is essential for success in martial arts and life. At Obsidian, we emphasize the importance of commitment, focus, and perseverance. Our training regimen teaches students the value of hard work and the rewards that come from consistent effort. Through disciplined practice, our students develop resilience, learning to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
Integrity
Integrity is at the heart of our academy. We instill this value in our students by encouraging honesty, accountability, and ethical behavior both in and out of the dojo. Our instructors lead by example, demonstrating that true strength is not just physical but also moral. By upholding integrity, we cultivate a culture of trust within our community, empowering students to make the right choices.
Confidence
We empower our students to believe in themselves and their abilities. Building confidence through martial arts helps individuals face challenges head-on and succeed in their personal and professional lives.
Growth
We are committed to the continuous improvement of our students and ourselves. Through martial arts, we encourage lifelong learning and personal development, helping individuals grow physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Community
We foster a sense of belonging and support within our martial arts family. Our community encourages teamwork, friendship, and mutual encouragement, creating a nurturing environment for personal growth.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about Obsidian Martial Arts business and programs.
Why choose Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu over other martial arts?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) stands out among martial arts for its emphasis on ground fighting and technique over brute strength, making it accessible to individuals of all sizes and abilities. BJJ teaches practical self-defense skills while promoting discipline, respect, and confidence. Additionally, it fosters a supportive community, encouraging personal growth and camaraderie among students. Whether you're looking to improve your fitness, learn self-defense, or engage in friendly competition, BJJ offers a comprehensive and fulfilling martial arts experience.
What are your prices?
Our pricing is structured on a bi-weekly basis: $79 for kids and $89 for adults. We also offer discounts for larger families, military personnel, law enforcement, and first responders to ensure that everyone can benefit from our programs.
Do you offer a trial period for new students?
We offer a 7-day free trial that allows you to experience all our age- and skill-appropriate classes with unlimited access. This is a great opportunity for you to discover which programs suit you or your child best and to get a feel for our community.
How do you ensure safety during training?
At Obsidian Martial Arts, student safety is our top priority. We maintain a clean and secure training environment, and our experienced instructors closely monitor all classes to ensure proper techniques are used. We also emphasize respect, discipline, and communication to foster a safe and supportive atmosphere. Additionally, we encourage feedback from parents and students to continuously improve our safety measures.
What ages do you accept in your programs?
We welcome students of all ages, from 4 to 104! Our programs are designed to accommodate a wide range of skill levels and ensure a supportive learning environment for everyone.
Can parents watch their child’s first few classes?
Yes, absolutely! We encourage parents to watch their child’s first few classes. This helps both of you become comfortable with the environment and understand what we’re doing. We believe parental involvement enhances the overall experience for our students.
What should I wear for my first Gi or No-Gi training session?
For Gi training, we will provide a loaner Gi during your trial class. For No-Gi training, we recommend wearing fitted gym shorts and a t-shirt. Please avoid baggy clothing and items with zippers, as they can create safety concerns. After your trial, approved No-Gi training gear will be required for participation.
Do you work with children or students who have special needs?
At Obsidian Martial Arts, we are dedicated to working with all students, including those with special needs. We encourage open communication with parents to discuss your child’s specific requirements. This ensures we can tailor our approach and provide the best possible support in a safe and nurturing environment.
How does your pricing work, and are there any contracts or hidden fees?
At Obsidian Martial Arts, we prioritize transparency in our pricing. We offer bi-weekly payments and a pay-as-you-go option, ensuring you have flexibility without any surprise charges. We believe in providing value without locking you into long-term commitments.
